About Us

Old North State Tours LLC is a Durham, North Carolina guided tour company that specializes in the history and heritage of North Carolina. We provide themed tours to all who wish to learn about the Old North State’s rich history and heritage.

We provide GROUP TOURS, PRIVATE TOURS, CUSTOM TOURS, and SCHOOL TOURS for 2-14 people. These tours can be scheduled Tuesday through Saturday. Dates reserved are on a first come first serve basis.

RELOCATION TOURS for 2-14 people can be scheduled Monday through Saturday.

We will visit key historical sites and enjoy other local attractions that each area has to offer. You will learn interesting facts as well as hear stories and legends about those folks who came before us. Taking a tour with us is educational and recreational.

MEET YOUR GUIDE

Joel Wuliger

Joel has traveled all over the state of North Carolina, from the sands of the Outer Banks to the ancestral home of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee. He has visited the coastal towns of colonial North Carolina, traveled the cities of the Piedmont Crescent, and experienced the sites of our states rich mountain history.

Joel brings his many years of teaching North Carolina and U.S. history, his love of travel, and his passion for sharing that history by offering tours that will introduce the Old North State to folks in ways they haven’t experienced before. We will explore the stories of those who have gone before us. How did they live? What was important to them? What was happening in their world?

Joel originally hails from Cleveland, Ohio. His passion for history is only rivaled by his love of his Ohio sports teams. Since moving to Durham, Joel has embraced the Triangle as his home and brings a knowledge of the areas rich history and heritage.
