Did you know that the Old Caswell County Jail (1906-1973) in Yanceyville, NC had the only known indoor hanging cell in a North Carolina jail? A year after it was built, the North Carolina Legislature banned punishment by hanging. Therefore no one was hung there. In addition, jailers' families did "hang around", living in the jailer's quarters. There are many local stories of playing jack rocks on the smooth concrete floor and other old fashioned games.
